“1.2 million Virginians have to use their accrued personal paid leave to cover their quarantine, if they were to contract COVID, or they would lose 10-14 days of pay. Despite this, there is still a debate amongst lawmakers as to whether or not employers should be required to offer paid sick leave.
Many who lack paid sick leave — such as grocery and fast-food workers — earn low wages and do not have the option to work remotely. Many of them are the front-line jobs that keep this country running in the pandemic; no one should have to choose between their health and their job. When employees are forced to choose, many people end up coming to work feeling under the weather — putting others at risk.”
