“Whenever I got sick when I was little, the only person I wanted was my mom. I was lucky because my mom was able to work every other weekend instead of during the week, so she was always there for me when I wasn’t feeling well.

I work Monday-Friday as an elementary school counselor. When my girls are sick I always try to remember how much it meant to me that my mom was there to take care of me. I am so grateful to have paid sick leave so that I’m able to take care of my girls when they don’t feel good. Because at the end of the day, there’s nothing that can substitute the care a mama provides her sick little ones.

Here in Virginia, many workers do not have access to any kind of Paid Leave. This is something that should change in the interest of taking care and showing appreciation for our fellow Virginians.”
